Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
Brewed on 10/17/2009
3 lbs chocolate malt.
2 lbs crystal 80 malt.
8 oz black patent malt
2 lbs base malt
3 lbs flaked oats.
4 cans dark LME
1 lb dark DME
3 lb brown sugar
1 lb cocoa
2 oz fuggle hops.
2 oz kent goldings hops
Steeped grains in 8 gallons water for 40 minutes.
Rinsed with 3.5 gallons water.
Added 4 cans LME.
Started 90 minute boil.
Added fuggle hops with 60 minutes left in boil.
Added 3 lbs brown sugar with 60 minutes left in boil.
Added 1 lb dark DME with 28 minutes left in boil.
Added 1 lb cocoa with 23 minutes left in boil.
Added 1 tbl spoon yeast nutrient with 5 minutes left in boil.
Added kent golding hops with 1 minute left in boil.
Racked into 2 carboys. Oxygenated and pitched 2 packages safbrew yeast.
S.G. 1.079 19.5 brix
Checked gravity on 10/22. 1.026. Split one package Muntons ale yeast between 2 carboys.
Racked to secondary 10/28/09. Gravity 1.022.
Krausen and activity in airlock started again on approx. 11/06.
Checked gravity on 11/13 it was 1.016.
Bottled 11/22/09 F.G. 1.014
ABV 8.5%
